First of all, what is PDCA? PDCA is actually a method of cyclical continuous improvement, first proposed by Dr. Shewhart, an American quality management expert. Adopted, promoted and popularized by Dr. Edwards Deming, so it is also called the Deming circle method.


We can understand it as: whether we do small or big things, it can coordinate or help us organize messy thoughts and gradually achieve our desired goals.


In principle, PDCA has 4 stages and 8 steps.

But today we will summarize it into five stages, namely Plan-Do-Check-Action-Control.These five stages form a reliable/efficient analytical control method.

Plan

From a macro point of view, it can rise to a company, group, country, nation, or even the world, the entire universe. Major events require a plan!

From a micro perspective, it can also be as small as an individual's daily life/rules, and it can also make a plan.

So, you can make a plan for everything.

The plan can be a simple one or two step plan; there can also be a perfect plan with N multiple steps.

We can make a simple plan in a flash.

We can also make plans through market surveys, user interviews, and find out users’ requirements for product quality.

It is also possible to investigate, analyze, determine the main cause, and formulate a plan.

In any case, a plan is better than no plan


DO

Regarding execution, the most important thing is, of course, execution power. 

Which region has the best execution power today? It belongs to the army! As the saying goes: military orders must be executed!

Modern management has three basic requirements for leaders: leadership, management, and execution.

The biggest difference between a great man and a daydreamer is that a daydreamer only knows how to think, but has never done it.

As a quasi-professional person, we must always pay attention to the cultivation and practice of executive ability.

Then there are two main factors that affect execution: concentration and attitude.


Concentration

Many things need to be done attentively,Learn to do complicated things simply.

Give priority to the main and important things; do the simple things seriously.

Let yourself be involved, learn to focus on everything and solve it well.

When you focus on one thing, you will find that everything becomes very clear and simple, and it is easy to do.

Mark Twain once said: People’s thoughts are amazing. As long as you focus on a cause, you will definitely achieve results that you are surprised by.


Attitude

Everyone often says: details determine success or failure, attitude determines everything!

Such a magic formula has been circulating in management

If the twenty-six English letters from A to Z are represented by numbers 1 to 26, you will be surprised to find:

Knowledge=11+、、、+5=96

Hard work=8+、、、+11=98

Attitude=1+、、、+5=100

This shows the importance of attitude.


Check

The plan has been implemented, of course we have to check. Are the results of the inspection consistent with our goals? Are there any unsuitable requirements during the execution? Check if there is a better solution etc. The basis of the inspection comes from our previous perfect planning and execution. results. Without one, there will be no satisfactory. 


Action

When all the checks are completed, we will get the achieved goals and the unachieved goals. We have to deal with the results of these two goals.

Achieved goals: We need to organize, analyze, record and form standard documents for this part of the goals.

Unreached goals: We also need to sort out, analyze, record, and then do PDCA again.


Control

Many friends may not understand, why I added a wordy content?-Control. Based on years of workplace experience, we have been smoothly handling the plan from the beginning. The theoretical imagination is the formulation and issuance of standard documents, and there would be no problems. But many times, everyone misses this item.Everyone thinks that project has been completed and successful, 

so they all take it lightly and ignore the formulation and issuance of standards. At this time, it is prone to problems. If the manager does not implement the supervision to the end, it can appear: the standard does not form a document control,The standard is documented but not issued, etc. A result that you can't imagine. It will not help to hold accountability/discussion then.


Therefore, everything must have a clear result, which is what we often say: everything must have a beginning and an end. Although we have described this method in a few words, there are many analytical techniques and tools involved in this method. I will not state them one by one here, but only select a few commonly used analysis methods for reference.

The above methods are alternately used vertically and horizontally, and there is no clear definition of application scope. You need to use it flexibly when you use it, and strategize in order to approach our goal infinitely. Groups or individuals who can reasonably apply this law are not bad! So about it importance, it is up to you to judge!


Everyone often says that PDCA consists of four stages and eight steps in total, and here we summarize it into 5 stages for discussion, hope it can be helpful and enlightenment for everyone.
